After a 20-year stint at Sports Illustrated, where he was a senior writer, Bruce Newman decided to make-over his career and write about movies. For five years, he freelanced, covering Hollywood for the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, US magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and TV Guide. Then, he reinvented himself again as a movie critic for the San Jose Mercury News. All of that helped prepare him to write about the beautiful, old movie palaces of the West for VIA.
