S
ome sweltering travelers simply turn on the AC, but VIA's savvy readers have other tricks.

"I freeze a fruit smoothie the night before. It thaws in the cup holder as I drive," says Victoria Peterson of San Francisco.

"Put gel insoles in your cooler, then in your shoes," suggests Crystal Logan of Portland.

"Carry wet wipes," advises Rayo Scott of Pocatello, Idaho.

"Nothing like a squirt bottle or mister full of cool water," says Jeanne Keenan of Fremont, Calif. "Kids love it."

"Make neck coolers," says Vicki Crabb of Orem, Utah. "They're fabric tubes filled with polymer granules that you soak in cold water. You can find a pattern at p2designs.com."

"I carry a folding hand fan," says Susan Silva of Martinez, Calif.
