One of Cory Holmes’s metal sculptures in the shape of a girl

Ranchers don't ask for Cory Holmes's sculptures. The whimsical scrap-metal pieces—such as this frizzy-haired gal—just appear on roadside fence posts. Holmes, a train conductor from Havre, Mont., has left 750 works in 19 states but favors his own turf. "There are 35 million fence posts in Montana," he says. Spy his art along Highway 239 between Hobson and Utica. montanapictures.net/hobson_art_tour_two.htm.
