Pets on the go

Don’t want to leave Fido or Fluffy behind—especially during the holidays? VIA readers offer tips on pet travel.

"Buckle up!" advises Lisa Brothman of Salt Lake City. "In the car, keep pets safe with a harness or in a carrier."

"To protect motel bedspreads from hair and paw prints," writes Lucille Perry of Grants Pass, Ore., "bring an old sheet to throw on the bed."

"Assemble a first-aid kit for your pet," says Helen Goulding of Great Falls, Mont. "Ask your vet what to put in it."

"Map out regular stops at pet-friendly parks, beaches, and rest stops along your driving route," suggests K.J. Holtsclaw of Newark, Calif.

"When I go on a road trip with my schnauzer," writes Taralyn Largo of Fremont, Calif., "I fill a cooler with ice so my dog always has cold water."
