A PLACE TO PAMPER YOUR POOCH
CARMEL, CALIF.
dog

By Nino Padova

Want to get out of town for the weekend but can't bear to leave Fido at the kennel? Take him to Carmel-by-the-Sea for the doggy-biscuit turndown service at Doris Day's Cypress Inn (800-443-7443) or the champagne-bucket water bowl presented on a chic napkin-covered plate at PortaBella (831-624-4395). Shops such as Diggidy Dog (831-625-1585) and Mackie's Parlour (831-626-0600) sell feather beds, canine cologne, and squeak toys. And for the thirsty shopper: the Fountain of Woof, a dogs-only drinking fountain in the Carmel Plaza shopping center.
