grizzly bears in West Yellowstone Montana

By Ron Evans

Spotting grizzlies and gray wolves in Yellowstone National Park can be a challenge. The creatures are most active in the evening and early morning, when sightseers are usually at dinner or in bed.

But time-pressed visitors determined to bulk up their life lists can make a stop at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center just outside the park entrance in West Yellowstone, Mont.

With eight grizzly bears and a pack of gray wolves, the facility offers a chance to view the impressive animals in a nearly natural setting and to learn about ongoing efforts to safeguard both species within the park. The center is open year-round. (800) 257-2570, www.grizzlydiscoveryctr.org.
